A Signature Drink for Your Wedding. To have or not to have?

Choosing a Signature Cocktail for your Nuptials

Remember the cocktail hour from the ghost of wedding past?

The newly-weds and the rest of their bridal party were squirreled away in a room with limited food and drink and even less entertainment, while family and friends mingled, drank and ate those little miniature weenies from silver trays?

Not today! The cocktail hour has taken on a whole new meaning for the couple and their guests.

signature coctailMany brides and grooms are choosing to enjoy the hour before dinner (traditionally known as the “cocktail hour”) to mingle with their guests. Along with this has come some other changes such as  serving a customized drink,  chosen especially for the occasion.
Whether they are basing the name of the personalized beverage on a favorite restaurant, a cherished location or selecting its title to sum up their relationship as the blissful pair, it is a customized, personal choice of the couple.

Why Serve a Signature Drink?

Signature drinks are a great for the budget conscious couple! Instead of an open bar offer only beer, wine, champagne, and one signature drink that you name and tie into the theme of the big day.

Honey, where do we start?

  • Serving a signature drink at your wedding reception that reflects your party style can be an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be so intimidating when deciding.
  • It can be as basic as a fruit or herb infused lemonade at a barn wedding or as fancy as a martini cocktail fashioned after the colors of your bridal party at the coolest venue in the city.
  • Begin by writing down the cocktails and flavors you and your partner love. You can pick one for the both of you or choose a drink from the bride and the other from the groom.

Tips for the perfect signature drink:

Use fresh ingredients- to assure quality taste and balance. Prepackaged mixers just don’t have the same taste and are loaded with unnecessary sugars and preservatives.

Keep it simple– If your drink needs an instruction manual to assemble–prepare for a line at the bar. On the other hand if you choose a less complicated concoction, you can have the staff mix a batch ahead of time and pour.

Talk to the experts– Professional mixologists are ready and willing to give their expertise. Use it.

Don’t sacrifice taste for color– Keep in mind some drink colors are pretty in a vase or as bath water, but not something your guests want to consume

Offer a mocktail -(a non-alcoholic version)of your signature drink. A gracious host (you are the host of your wedding) will be sensitive to their guests. Not everyone at your wedding drinks alcohol. Include them in the fun by providing a non- alcoholic version of the signature drink.
